The Second of June

The second day of every month has quite a bit of significance for me. Ben´s birthday is on the second of December, so today marks his ¨half birthday,¨ for those of you who may celebrate such funny festivities. The second is also the monthly anniversary of the day that Ben´s official deployment started - November 2 - which means that today is the end of his seventh month overseas.

But today, the second has an even more significance, as it marks our one year wedding anniversary. One year ago today, Ben and I stood in Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church and committed our lives to each other in front of our friends and families. It was the most incredible day for both of us, and we are fortunate to have wonderful memories of the entire celebratory weekend.

Little did we know that we would be marking our anniversary one day later from Iraq and Peru. And although these are certainly unwelcome circumstances, I think that we both have come to appreciate these past few months for how much stronger our relationship has become.

Thank you to all of our friends and family who celebrated with us last year on this day. And thank you to all of you who have been such a huge support to us throughout this year, from sending Ben care packages, emailing both of us, and praying for safe passage until we are both at home, safe and sound, on U.S. soil.

Love to all, but most importantly, to my amazing husband and my hero, Ben.
